Overview

Money.co.uk helps consumers and businesses compare financial products and make more informed financial decisions. Its business hub covers everything from business banking and finance to insurance and software, making business statistics a highly relevant topic for the brand.

That gave us an opportunity to create an evergreen resource that could strengthen money.co.uk’s authority in the business space while attracting links from publications looking for reliable, up-to-date statistics.

The brief

Money.co.uk wanted to strengthen its organic authority around business-related topics while earning relevant links into its business section. A statistical asset also gave us the opportunity to attract more niche, topically relevant links that are often harder to secure through traditional digital PR campaigns.

To do this, we created an evergreen asset covering the latest UK business stats, facts and trends. The page was built to rank for high-value, topically relevant searches and become a useful source of up-to-date data for journalists, publishers and businesses, increasing its potential to earn links from relevant and authoritative websites.

It also needed to stay useful over time, so the asset was created with regular updates in mind, allowing us to keep adding fresh statistics as the UK business landscape changed.

The money.co.uk business statistics asset

Our strategy

We created the page to cover a broad range of UK business statistics, including business size, ownership, location, sector performance, failure rates, and finance and insurance. This gave the asset enough depth to rank for a range of relevant searches and meant different types of publishers could find data that was useful to them.

The asset combined trusted secondary sources with original data and analysis from our in-house team, alongside charts and other visual elements to make the statistics easy to understand and reference. We also optimised the page around relevant search terms and linked it into money.co.uk’s existing business content.

The work didn’t stop once the page was published. We refreshed the asset several times over the following four years, replacing outdated figures and adding fresh data to keep it useful to both searchers and journalists. As its rankings and authority grew, the page became easier for publishers to discover organically, helping it continue to earn links without relying on ongoing outreach.

“You cannot underestimate the importance of relevancy when it comes to SEO. It allows search engines to match your content with what users are searching for, which means they’re more likely to stay engaged with your page longer. This sends positive signals back to Google that your content is what people need, which boosts rankings and page performance.

We’ve taken this one step further with our hyper-relevancy link-building project, using data-led, evergreen content to earn meaningful organic backlinks from authoritative niche publications and trusted sources.

Our business statistics page is just one example of this, achieving more than 550 backlinks in four years. And the great thing is the snowball effect this creates – once a few start linking back to our page, the rest want a piece of the action.

To stay relevant, you have to be up to date. With multiple refreshes over the past four years, we’ve been able to add fresh data that appeals to journalists from a range of reputable sources, including stats generated by our in-house data team. This unique element ensures we’re constantly adding to the space and not just regurgitating stats that anyone else can find on the internet.

This has enabled our client to rank second in the SERP for the primary keyword ‘business statistics’ ahead of some of the big guns in the world of business, including the ONS, the Federation of Small Businesses, and GOV.UK.”
