From Tesla to Google and Microsoft, these companies hold an incredible market cap in 2021 so far. But a lot of these successful businesses would not be where they were without the brains behind how these businesses have evolved over the years.

To truly appreciate how successful these businesses have become to date, we need to focus the lens on the prolific businesspeople at the top of the hierarchical chain calling all the shots. To discover the most successful billionaires belonging to some of the world’s famous brands, we dug deep into the financial records of 40 billionaires to determine who the most successful billionaires are at present.

OUR RESEARCH:

To find our list of billionaires, we based our study on real-time ranking obtained from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, collecting a list of 40 billionaires in total. Using this, we have collated an index drawing information for the following key variables that best measure success:

◼ Total net worth

◼ Company market capitalisation

◼ Company annual net income

◼ No. of employees per owned company

A weighted score-based system using a percent rank was then used to normalise our collected data and give a final total score. The score ranks each billionaire from highest to lowest revealing who is the most successful.

METHODOLOGY:

  • Reboot Digital PR Agency utilised Bloomberg Billionaires Index to source a seeding list of the top 40 real-time billionaires. We only focussed on billionaires who are currently or in the past have played an active role in their companies, excluding non-active heirs of the fortunes. Also excluded were billionaires with only privately listed companies.
  • An index study was used to measure ‘success’ through these specific factors:
  • Looked at each billionaire's net worth using Bloomberg Billionaires Index giving the current total net worth for each person ranked.
  • Used Google Finance to find and compare each billionaire’s companies market capitalisation for 2021 and to search through each company's annual net income (data collected were based on the 2020 statistics as the most current data shown collectively for all companies).
  • All acquired data for market capitalisation and annual net income were measured in USD ($) and any data collected in other currencies were converted to USD ($) via www.xe.com on 24/05/21 and 25/05/21.
  • Lastly, Google Finance was used to find out the most current numbers of employees each company has to determine which of the companies are the current largest billionaire employers.
  1. A weighted score system using a percent rank was used to find the total score out of 10 based on each of the key variables above. The billionaires were then ranked from highest to lowest scores to determine the most to least successful.
  2. Data was collected and accurate as of 24/05/21 and 25/05/21 and is subject to change.
