Search engine penalties have been a reality since the early days of Search Engines. They were traditionally given out to only the most extreme cases of so called SEO companies trying to “game the system”. Over the years, Google in particular, has become a lot more sensitive to its rules being violated. With a recent devastating sequence of algorithm changes such as “Panda” and “Penguin” and more recently the EMD (Exact match domains) “correction”, it has managed to place hundreds of thousands of business owners near the brink of collapse due to an ensuing drop in traffic that accompanies these penalties.
It is important to understand that these penalties are completely avoidable. Good clean SEO has not changed over the years. Most penalties are the result of overzealous site owners or self-claimed SEO professionals trying to improve the rankings of their sites by using link building methods such as Blog networks, directory and article submissions or even comment spam on other people’s blogs. Even though these methods worked in the past, it was always very clear that they were not considered ethical. I am proud to say that not one of Reboot’s customers has ever been penalised. I put that down to the fact that we always kept our SEO as organic and as natural as possible.
As always, the best cure is to avoid the penalty in the first place. If your business is heavily reliant on internet traffic, these penalties can be devastating. Massive drops in traffic of up to 95% can not only cause your phone to stop calling, but it can easily place your whole business in jeopardy in a very short amount of time. It is therefore always best to avoid these penalties by using ethical and natural SEO tactics such as the ones we wholly employ here at Reboot. Saying that, over the last few years, we have had a flood of requests from business owners whose sites have been penalised due to other SEO company’s work to help with recovering from a penalty.
In 2005, Kate Brownhill joined our team specifically with the task of cleaning up people’s link profiles with the eventual aim of the removal of the penalty the site is suffering of. A penalty removal expert, Kate has helped 22 companies completely recover from their penalty and over 60 companies with partial recovery. We have since developed in house tools to help us with this task and we strongly believe that there is no other company out there that can match our expertise in this field. If your company or website has been adversely effected by a search engine penalty which you would like removed, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0203 397 1948.
